Invisible Borders: My Life on Both Sides (RGI’s Year of Learning Event)
November 18 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join EJP scholarship recipient Roberto Hernandez as he shares his story of living undocumented in the US, deportation and return to his native Mexico. In 2010 Roberto founded Casa de Vida in Guadalajara, Jalisco, a center for returned migrants who experienced prison, gangs and drug addiction in the US before their deportation.
Casa de Vida is a center for deported “Homies” who identify as Mexican-American, and celebrate Chicano culture. In addition to being a community center, Casa de Vida connects individuals with rehabilitation services, medical services, as well as call center jobs and “accompanies” them in the process of reestablishing oneself in Mexico after deportation or return.
