The Education Justice Project is proud to be a unit of the Department of Educational Policy, Organization, and Leadership within the University of Illinois’ College of Education. We are an unusual academic unit in that we have no full time staff and no dedicated administrative support. Instead, work is performed by members who sit on its multiple committees and take responsibility for designing programs, implementing them, and for outreach and operational functions as well. EJP members work on a volunteer basis.

EJP typically has between fifty and sixty active members during any given semester. EJPers who no longer teach regularly at the prison continue to be considered part of the larger EJP community.

EJP’s director, Rebecca Ginsburg, oversees daily operations and is guided by an Advisory Board¬†¬†that assists in setting policy and other strategic matters. Its current members include the following campus and community members:

  • James Anderson, Head, Department of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership, UIUC
  • Rebecca Ginsburg, Director, EJP and Associate Professor, Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership, UIUC
  • James Kilgore, Research Associate, Center for African Studies, UIUC
  • Cris Mayo, Associate Professor, Department of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership; Head, Odyssey Project, UIUC
  • Julian Rappaport, Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology, UIUC
  • Dede Ruggles, Professor, Department of Landscape Architecture, UIUC
  • Rob Scott, Horticulture Faculty, Danville Area Community College; Adjunct Faculty, Department of Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership, UIUC
  • William Sullivan, Professor, Department of Landscape Architecture, UIUC
